Informing Change Through Community Research and Collaboration
About Sacred
Sacred (body:mind:space) began as an idea in 2020 and was formally registered in 2022 as a Community Interest Company, Sacred BMS CIC.
We are committed to empowering community-led change by leading on research, rather than relying on research done upon our communities. Our core approach is informed by Muslim values of ihsaan (spiritual excellence) and the lived experience of how religion and culture intertwine in the everyday realities of Scottish Muslim life.
Our work is shaped by a whole approach to community-based research, one that prioritises collaboration and co-construction with Scottish Muslim communities. We believe this is essential for autonomy in knowledge production, centring the voices, experiences, and truths of those most affected.
Our Vision
To create positive change in Scottish Muslim communities by fostering safe environments that are free of abuse.
Our Mission
To ensure that abuse in the Scottish Muslim communities is recognised, acknowledged, and researched to work toward helping communities become safe and nurturing and that those affected by abuse are protected and supported.
What makes us different?
We are a stand-alone, unaffiliated Community Interest Company (CIC) dedicated to researching all forms of abuse in Scottish Muslim communities through partnership work. We are informed by the Islamic principle of ihsaan (spiritual excellence) and conduct our research through the lens of Islamic Liberation Theology, a faith-based framework that centres justice, dignity, and the voices of the oppressed.
