Informing Change Through Community Research and Collaboration

About Us

Sacred (body:mind:space) began as an idea in 2020 and 2022 we officially registered as a community interest company - Sacred BMS CIC.

We are passionate about empowering community change by leading on research, rather than relying on research done ‘upon’ our communities. Our core approach is informed by Muslim values of ihsaan and the lived experience of the interplay between culture and religion that are a normative experience in Muslim communities in Scotland.

Our community-based research is a whole approach that seeks to create collaboration and co-construction with Scottish Muslim communities. We believe this is essential for autonomy in knowledge creation as it centres the experiences, voices, and lived experiences at the heart of research and knowledge production.

Our Vision

To create positive change in Scottish Muslim communities by fostering safe environments that are free of abuse.

Our Mission

To ensure that abuse in the Scottish Muslim communities is recognised, acknowledged, and researched to work toward helping communities become safe and nurturing and that those affected by abuse are protected and supported.

What makes us different?

We are a stand-alone, and unaffiliated Community Interest Company (CIC) dedicated to researching all forms of abuse in the Scottish Muslim communities through partnership work. We are informed by the Islamic principle of ihsan and seek to conduct and deliver research through the lens of Islamic Liberation Theology.
